We investigated recorded rainfall data, between 1980 and 2016, to create a shortlist of the top 10 areas of Canada that we predict will receive the highest levels of rainfall this April. Our researchers also ranked areas of Canada based upon which are expected to have the highest number of “damp days”, which consists of rain or snow.

Where in Canada is expected to receive the highest amount of rainfall this April?

Vancouver, in British Columbia, is predicted to receive the highest amount of rainfall this April, at approximately 98.5 millimetres over the course of the month.

Vancouver’s mid-latitude location means that large scale wind patterns from the west to southwest bring abundant rain off from the Pacific Ocean. Vancouver has been aptly nicknamed ‘Raincouver’ as a result.

Methodology

  • 1

To determine the chances of rainfall in Canada, the monthly average rainfall in April, between 1980 and 2016 was sourced.

  • 2

Canadian cities were then ranked separately by the highest rainfall in millimetres and the highest number of wet days (ie. rain/snow which totals at least one millimetre/0.04 inches).
